I still don't know if I will go with silicone like you or try my md weatherseal, maybe it will be toot thick... You put silicone only on the side of the gasket that "touch" the body?
The gasket comes installed on the light and sticks above the plastic so it will "squeeze" against the body of the truck. So yes, I applied the dielectric (silicon) grease to the truck side of the gasket. The plastic facia sits flush against the truck body. You will have a hard time adding an extra gasket to this and in my opinion it will stick out and not look right.

I won't add an extra gasket, I will replace it....if I do it...

I misunderstood. The gasket that comes with is a nice stamped neoprene material.

I bought this one a few months back for my '04 Lariat. Several folks said they had issues with their fuses blowing but I was careful in wiring mine and have had no issues so far. Install was easy, fits good, works like it should. Oh and I'm only posting this in case anybody comes to this post looking for info on 3rd brakelight replacements.

I read somewhere that this md gasket was very very nice for the third brake light leak problem.
But if this one is ok, I will go like you with a bit of silicone I think and replace it if it leak someday...

Mine is still working perfectly. Temps have been very cold (-23C). No issues for the lights. No fogging of the lens and no water leakage in the cabin (when the snow on the roof melts).

I just recently replaced mine a few weeks ago with a Dorman. I got from auto store. (Like others it started to leak). Had the mold gunk buold up and cleaning ruined the chrome plastic inside.

I liked the new gasket with the Dorman as it was thicker. , I decided to use clear silicon all around to keep that green pollen gunk out. Also replaced with LED Sylvnia bulbs and like the brightness.

I did replace the wide clips, and bought some auto trim screws, I think #8-1-1/2” and Hilman brand neoprene washers to secure the light back on. Got all the parts at Lowe’s for cheap. This gave me more surface area contact with the new screws. Hand tightened

I saw replacement gaskets on amazon for 15$. And didn’t know what kind of material it was, and didn’t know what kind of sealant to use to make my own tGoing to refurbish old one and sell to recoup. (How does paint come off with just water and dish detergent? Soaking?🤔. Flaked right off.

If ya get a chance take pic of light at night so I can see brightness. I like the LEDs.
