Default Cheap Tailgate lock

What is a good cheap tailgate lock for my XL? Mine doesn't even come with a lock. Of course I am not interested in a remote control thingy. I just want something that will discourage a meth head a little and cause him to move on to the next truck.

Priorities:

1. Easy to install.

2. Not difficult to operate tailgate after installation.

3. Cheap.

4. Effective i.e. require thief to do some planning first.

Hose clamp around the rightside hinge pin. Not a 100% lock, but will surely slow them down and discourage a wam-bam, thank you, shazam.

I've got the Master Lock as well. Not as cheap as a hose clamp, but easier to remove if you need to take it on and off, and harder to break into if a thief starts scoping out your truck for some reason.

I could be wrong here but I don't think the OP is talking about a lock to secure the tailgate from being lifted out and stolen. But a lock by the tailgate handle so when you lift it up the tailgate handle it doesn't open.

On a previous truck I owned that didn't have one, I used Bully, was like $20 and easy to install.

If he is talking about what everyone is saying then I would recommend McGard as in my signature below. I had another brand like the Master Lock that had exposed metal and it ended up scraping the paint in the tailgate down to the bare metal. Hence why I went to McGard.
