Default Charging System Warning

Yesterday when leaving work i noticed the "CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING" indicator on. It went off again in just a couple of minutes so i went on about my business of a Walmart visit. In the way home from the store tbe radio randomly shut off. Then the traction control indicator came on as well as another warning light. Then all electrical items shut off. All interior lights and guage cluster lights.. all of it.. off. Engine still ran just fine. Got home and unloaded my groceries and left again.. no issues.. no warnings.. anyone else had this issue or know a possible cause?

Get your battery and alternator tested.

Tested the battery/alternator tonight.. 12.28ish when off.. 11.14 when running. Checked battery terminals and discovered a hidden cable under the red cover that wasnt connected.. was just resting on the connector bolt.. unscrewed and reconnected and retested.. same 12.28ish but when running it jumped to 14.4ish... hoping that takes care of it. We'll see

13.8 to 14.2 or so is normal while running. You probably fixed your issue, good catch.

The real issue is why the cable was not connected and how it got disconnected?

Well i had disconnected the hot terminal for an unrelated reason a few weeks ago.. didnt even notice the cable hidden away under the red plastic cap or if it was or was not connected at that time so when i tightened the nut i didnt put it back under it and left it resting on top... my bad.. it was still connecting at least a little bit so i never gave it another thought until last night when we tested the battery/alternator. Its on me.. i wasnt very observant
