Default CEL: P0130 and P0150

2010 F150 XLT
5.4L V8
~98K miles

I have been searching all over the forum and internet for more information regarding the CEL codes (P0130, P0150) I pulled.

From what I have gathered, my upstream O2 sensors are "bad". My CEL light used to come on with these codes but would be cleared after driving for about a day or two. Now the CEL light and same codes come back on more frequently even after I reset/clear the codes.

My exhaust smells pretty rich from inside the cab and I would like to resolve the issue as my MPG has dropped from 18.3 and continues to fall.

In one thread I read that I could have my PCM reflashed with an update that will resolve this dual P0130 and P0150 CEL codes. I called the nearest dealer to me and inquired what it would cost. I was verbally quoted $95 for them to perform an inspection and if I just wanted a PCM flash that was $115.

Elsewhere I have read that removing and cleaning the O2 sensors could solve the CEL codes but all my research on how to remove the sensors have revealed the passenger side is a real pain.

I am at a loss of what to do here and was looking for some advice. I am mechanically inclined so I feel I could remove my sensors and replace them (if necessary) but I am not sure this would solve my problem. I fear that if I pay the dealer to reflash my PCM, that a slew of more problems will surface since my truck is a few years old.

Thoughts/advice?

At 98K, I would just replace the sensors and go from there and see what that does before I did anything else.

I am trying to find the best price for both the driver and passenger side for the upstream sensors. Anyone have the exact part number? I tried using a few different sites and am getting conflicting part numbers.

Give your vin to the dealer and get OE sensors. Don't cheap out with aftermarket.
