Default Catalytic Converters

Looking for opinions for the catalytic convertors on my 2013 with the 5.0. Has 175,000 miles on it and its throwing codes for both catalytic convertors, no other codes are present. Since I purchased the truck not too long ago, the Dealership is going to replace them for me, just wondering if they go bad or is there another problem that caused them to go out. Thanks for any input. Sorry if this has been addressed on another thread.

Anything can go bad. Cats usually would by too much fuel getting through the engine unburned. That could happen because of a problem or because of a lot of miles with short trips. If you have any other signs of running rich or poor spark, look into it.

Regarding the cats, OEM is probably the best replacement option. There are a few options for aftermarket which look like a good deal, but I have read a fair amount of forums where people state they didn't get a lot of miles out of them. 175K on the oem cats is pretty good IMO. Unless you plan on quickly selling your truck, this is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for".

Thanks for the info, I actually just bought the truck so won't be selling anytime soon. The Ford dealer I bought it from is going to replace the Cats for free for me. Which is I'm pretty happy about since I bought it As Is. Also I assume they will be putting on OEM parts.

Seems like that would be a perfect time to add an exhaust system of your choice, if that is what you want to do.

True, but can't imagine Ford would pay for that.
