Angry Can't program a secondary key-code

OK guys, on my 2013 FX4 I was able to program my own key-code for unlocking my doors and I remember it being very easy to do. So fast forward to the 2012 FX4 that I just bought. I have the factory code and it works fine, but I would like to add the same code I used on my other truck. I have tried everything and can't get it to work. I do exactly what it says here but when I go to put in the new 5 digit code, it makes a clicking noise when I hit the 2nd and 4th digit, but never locks and unlocks like it states it should, and the new code never works. Any ideas??

Here is what the manual says:
  1. Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when first digit is pressed).
  2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step one.
  3. Enter your personal five-digit code. Enter each digit within five seconds of the previous one.

Do you have an 8" screen? You can do it in there too, see if that works.

No I don't.Just standard dash screen. It's just so weird because this should be so simple, There must be something else going on.

Perhaps the key(s) for the 2nd and 4th digit are broken? Are those key(s) used with the factory code?

Did you try erasing all programmed codes first? Enter factory code, within 5 seconds press 1/2 and release, within 5 seconds HOLD 1/2 for 2 seconds.

Did you ensure that the new code doesn't break the rules (can't all be same number, can't be in sequential order?

Couple things... and maybe you've already tried but didn't mention in your instructions.

1. The code must be 5 digits
2. After you enter your new 5 digit code, you hit 1/2 again to save it

Doors should lock/unlock.

Not on a 2012.

I had already erased the programmed code (if there was one), but I did the process to erase it if there.

The new code doesn't break the rules and it worked on my 2013.

I followed the directions exactly how it's in the manual.

Your comment was interesting about the keypad maybe not working (and I was mistaken, it's the 2nd and 3rd digit that I was trying to program). So I tried to program a different code in using 4 numbers from the factory code and one with the 5th digit and still nothing.

I could take a video but nothing is making sense here. The good thing is that the factory code is way easy to remember, but I thought it would be nice to have the same code as I used on my last truck.
