The owner's manual insturctions regarding changing and/or the battery and the need to rest the BMS (Battery Management System).
Maintence » CHANGING THE VEHICLE BATTERY » Battery Management System ...
After battery replacement, or in some cases after charging the battery with the external charger, the BMS requires eight hours of vehicle sleep time (key off with doors closed) to relearn the new battery state of charge. Prior to relearning the state of charge, the BMS may disable electrical features (to protect the battery) earlier than normal.
*NOTE: FoMoCo dealership service can reset the BMS using their IDS (Intergrated Diagnostic System) negating the eight hours of vehicle sleep time requirement.

Might be able to do it in forscan. I think you can even disable that system in the programming as well in forscan. If i get a chance when I get home I'll connect the laptop and see.

I'm gonna be aggravated as all hell if that ends up being all it needed. I got the truck used so I don't have the owners manual. All this computer crap is asinine. Give me a true 351 or 302 any day.

All that computer crap can save your bacon. Not to mention it limits the crap coming out of your tailpipe which means your vehicle runs cleaner which in turn means it runs longer and better saving you money. And todays modern computer modules actually do make diagnostics easier even for a back yard mechanic with the right software.

Disconnect the BMS Hall sensor on the negative battery cable. The alternator will output at full voltage (approx 14.5). No more battery warnings. No CEL. Mines been disconnected for years. If your truck will be sitting for awhile put a trickle charger on the battery.

Yes. In my original post "help I'm dead in the water truck won't start" post I listed everything the truck was doing. I list it again here. I was driving when all thewarning lights came on and the display started telling me "service advancetrac check 4x4 the wrench symbol came remove items from passenger seat and start system fault. I stopped shut down. Wouldn't start. Disconnected the battery hooked it back up started truck started. When first staryed everything was normal for a minute or so then everything started all over again with no gauges of any type. Truck drove fine back to the house didn't go into limp mode. Shutdown wouldn't start. It sat for awhile started. Still all the warnings going off and no gauges. Shut down hasn't started since even after putting a new battery in it and it sitting for a couple days

I had the same issue; new battery and it would keep on complaining. Went to the dealer and they said they never heard of the BMS??? Yeah, okay.
Anyways, they replace the new interstate with one of their batteries and apparently it stopped. Mhmmm, they reset the BMS but claimed not. Had to buy their battery but it was okay bc our other truck needed a new battery.

Got home, put the motorcraft in the other truck, interstate in mine and no issues for 2 years.

In February, the battery shot a cell. Started getting a warning and had the battery replaced under warranty but paid the difference to upgrade to AGM. Truck never complained but I still took my scanner (Actron CP9695) and reset the BMS.

If this is true that dealership committed highway robbery. What dealership is it so we know never to go there.
