Default California performance upgrade

I'd like to do some upgrades on my 2013 XLT but most performance sites don't list California smog test compatible parts. Could someone point me to where I should look, or (preferably) list what I should do in stages?

Banks intake is CARB approved.

Yeah, I was gonna start with an intake then when I had the $$$ get a cat-back. Previously I drove Mitsubishi rice-rockets and the shop I used did some amazing things with $1500, and they passed smog. Problem is when I look for air intakes either they say they're not for California or they don't say so, and when I ask they say no.

I just Googled Banks air intake and they're for the V-8 or Ecoboost, I've just got the base 3.5l engine. Crap.

Yeah just be sure everything has a CARB exemption number. There are some 50 state legal exhaust systems for the F150. Check aFe for intakes, I thought I saw one they had for 50 State legal.

It's not CARB exemption.... It's CARB compliant... California Air Resource Board. Edge programmer is along with most CAI's and CAT back exhaust systems. Cat's are required by Fed law in all 50 States... not just Cali...

CA has stupid as hell laws as I am sure you guys know.

You need to have an EO number.

CARB Exempt and CARB Compliant are used in the same terms, I lived in CA for many years... in either case it needs an Executive Order number. My reference says nothing about an exhaust system but an Air Intake that has an CARB EO number. Cats are required in all 50 states, I never said they weren't, but he's referencing CA. Many states don't do a true "sniffer" test on the exhaust so you can in fact get away with running a down pipe in place of a cat and if you're clever enough your O2 sensor won't throw a code. It's not something I recommend but it can be done.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. As a child of the 70s I remember how bad the air was back then. We'd regularly have smog alerts (stage II and III even) and I cannot remember the last one, probably in the early 80s. Our air quality laws aren't stupid and my vehicles will always comply. Doesn't mean I can't get better performance, just means it's a bit more challenging.

I found a Stillen intake that's legal (local company too) so I'm good. Thanks for the help & suggestions!
