Default A/C odor

have a new-to-me 2013 F150 XLT. Liking this truck a lot (SO FAR) but am experiencing a rather annoying glitch:

Whenever the car has sat for a few hrs in extremely hot weather, upon start-up when the a/c comes on there's a real stink momentarily until the unit starts blowing nice cool air. Then the odor disappears.

Vehicle is low mileage (24,000mi) and is in impeccable condition, appears to have been fanatically maintained by previous owner.

Any thoughts on source and/or remedies.??

Thanks much in advance.

I am positive there are threads on this. I experience the same thing sometimes, but it is very brief.

same situation for me - 2013 fx4, impeccable condition. It smells kind of "barnyard-y"... I thought about taking it in, but I figured it was probably a mouse or something. Happened before to my jeep, found a nest in the air box. Let us know if you find anything different

Common. Google search for this issue. I always run my HVAC for a while with the AC off before shutting it off. Seems to help.

^^^^^ this

run it in off for about 2 min before shutting the truck off, also, to combat the issue now, get a can of lysol spray (crisp linen smells really good)
and spray it in your 4 round vents, down in the windshield defrost vent on the dash, and the most important, outside in the hvac intake vent in the cowl under the wipers.... lots of spray in this one, wait about 2 min, and turn the truck on, and cycle through all vent settings and heat and ac setting. this will help kill any lingering bacteria/mould currently in the system. Any spray you get on the vent plastic, wipe off right after you finish spraying that vent, just incase it reacts with the plastic. ( i have never had lysol do anything to plastic... but chemical formulas change all the time.....)
