Brake Rotors and Power Steering Failure 42k
Power Steering completely failed in daycare parking lot with no warning at 42k 2014 f150. This is a 2k dollar repair. While at the dealeship service employee also tells me that the front brake rotors need replaced. Brake pads in front still have life on them so Ford uses soft metal on the rotors. Called Ford to get a case for assistance with repairs and they denied it. I am not asking to get it completely payed for I just think I should get some assistance on parts since these parts are obviously faulty from the factory or is this normal for Ford? What else is weak on these trucks? I do like the truck but cost of ownership seems to be high. I am going to seriously consider selling the truck after I get it back from the dealer.

Boost :)
First, get a 2nd opinion on the rack as to what has failed. Perhaps, since it is all electric, there is a sensor or something that could be replaced as opposed to whole rack. If it is the whole rack, some are prone to fail yes, then look for a reman and don't have it done at Ford. You will save yourself plenty.
Second, yes the rotors are terrible. I made it less than 30k on my first set and went with quality aftermarket and have over 50k on those without issue. If you search, you will find many brake rotor issues on these trucks. A good pad a rotor combo solves the issue.

Front rotors on my 2013 FX4 SCREW lasted only 21k miles. However, mine were replaced under the 3 year 36k mile warranty. At 42k, I wouldn't even expect them to pay a cent.
I do agree the rotors are poor quality, but if you got 42k out of them and that the service rep had to say something before you noticed, I take it as a good run and just replace them with quality aftermarket.
As far as the rack, definitely do what TJ said and ask for a 2nd opinion. Could be something far less expensive.

FORD lifer
I'm on my 3rd set of rotors, and I also replaced the rack. The steering rack on these trucks is a weak link, and if you look through the threads there are a whole lot of us who either got "rear-ended" with a $1800 repair bill, or are about to.
