So it figures that now all the warrenty coverage on my truck is expired I'm starting to have stuff fail all over the place. First it was the rotted rockers 6 months after the rust and corrison coverage expired, then a bs airbag sensor fault I haven't tracked down yet. And now while on my trip last week discovered my t-case puked on its self. Tried going into 4lo got a check engine light and a whole lot of grinding. Finally went into 4lo but then was even harder to get back to the high range. Was hoping it was just the shift motor on the back but I checked that today. It turns and fully actuates just fine which leaves me with a internal problem.
It seems my options are new from tasca for about 800 shipped, rebuilt locally, or maybe rebuild it my self? Any options I'm not thinking of here? Oddly when ever I look for a used one theyre in the 1000 range. Yea no thank you, I can buy one from a dealer for less and know its good to go.

Here is a video of the failure happening. I've muted most of the conversations because I hate the sound of my voice.
And before someone suggests I didn't shift it correctly, I'm well aware of the procedure. Stopped or under 5mph, in neutral. But more then that the trucks PCM wont allow the shift unless all those conditions are met making it pretty hard to mess it up.

Did you pull the motor off to test it?

Well, I'm no expert, but doesn't that mean it had no load whatsoever? Is that test actually helping? Diagnostics get messy, not sure I'd be able to do them. Did you get a code?

You could be right that with no resistance on the motor it turns freely. But I was holding it when it was actuated and it felt smooth and had plenty of torque, enough that it wanted to move out of my hand when it turned. I would think a weak or damaged motor would make some kind of noise or feel rough or something. Also I did get a code but I think the pcm threw a bs code or the scanner misread it. I ended up clearing it to see what would happen and it has not come back. P0454 was the code which is a emission related code.
