Default Blue smoke at start up

It has just started to get cold here in KY. My truck sit for a couple of days at a time since I have a company car for work, so I only have about 500 miles on it. Its a 2010 lariet that i bought new at the end of October. Lately when I start it up a large puff of blue smoke comes from the exhaust and then its clear. Truck has been running fine and never smokes but at start up. That usually tells me something about burning oil but do you have any problems like that or answers for it

if it's only got 500 miles on it so far, I wouldn't worry about it too much, as the motor isn't fully broken in yet

if it continues after about 3k or so, then I'd probably swing it by a dealership to have it checked out...

You are correct jarrett, blue smoke usually means oil. Since your truck has such low milage and you do not need it for work, I would take it to the dealer let them keep it for a few days and check it out. You could have
a sticky ring, a bad valve giude seal.....ect. I have never had a new car/truck that smoked during start up, even if it sits all week. I used to have a Mustang that sometimes sat in the garage for weeks.
My 2 cents.

I agree with BLK150......this should not be happening with a new vehicle. There could be many different causes of this and to speculate here on exact causes would probably serve no real purpose.
Get a compression/cylinder leak down test done and ask to see the results. If you do have a cylinder(s) that are siginficantly lower than the others, don't accept that "it will go away with a few more miles."

If I start mine up and back out of the garage and not drive anywhere or for very short trips mine blow smoke out. If it is driven enough to warm up it will not smoke any.

I've noticed this same thing on my truck a couple of times with over 15K on it. I also noticed it occasionally on my 2005 GMC.

I'm due to take my truck in for a couple of things, I will mention it but I think it is very unlikely they will do anything about it as it isn't consistent.

My 09 did that a couple of times before 2000kms. Ford said not broke in yet. Never did it after that. My 10 never done it though.
