Default Blown fuel relay fuse

So yesterday the truck (2012 F150, 5.0, 80k miles) wouldn't start. Cranked fine but that's it. Quick google search of the symptoms said check fuse 27 (fuel pump relay) and sure enough it was fried.
New fuse in and it starts fine now.
Any ideas on what would blow the fuse? Is this more likely an "it's an old fuse, it just gave up the ghost" or is it more likely a symptom of something else going on (short somewhere, fuel pump about to go, etc.)
FWIW, I scanned the OBDII and it's not throwing any codes.

The fuse didn't blow, it melted and it's due to the contacts being too small for the rated current load which is why Ford released a larger fuse and contact to repair it with. Some info. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6...nhOT0czZlF5M1k

Thanks--what you're describing is exactly what I''m seeing (melted, rather than "blown"). I'll see about getting the repair done.

You can do it yourself if you can solder. Here's the kit. $20.00 Fuse 27 Repair
