Default Blower Motor Resistor

Do the 2012 F150 XLT with standard heater controls have a blower motor resistor, mine now only works on high so I'm guessing its the resistor.

A cursory search on Google revealed part #'s for one, so I'd imagine so. That's normally how the speeds are controlled.

I'd imagine that it's in the standard location - behind the glove compartment.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like. Replaced mine twice in my "08. Behind the glove box, really easy, and about $20.

Actually, side note - if it's ONLY working on high, it may NOT be the resistor, because normally the 'high' speed is due to the current being passed through the circuit with no resistance. More resistance is added the lower the fan speed goes.

What it may specifically be, I'm not sure, but I'm simply pointing out that it may not be the resistor. I hope I'm wrong though, as easy as the fix is.

I think you have this backwards. If the resistor is burnt out, it will only work on high.

Ya its the resistor, however I would rec. changing the blower motor as well, usually it causes the resistor to blow by drawing too much amperage, sometimes the resistor fails due to corrosion as well. And I have seen snow build up in the motor that caused the resistor to fail.

Sort of. If the resistor is burnt out, it will indeed only work on high...but I've seen (with other vehicles) other faults that contributed to it only working on high. My old 2000 4Runner was one of them.

That said, yeah, the likelihood of it being the resistor is much higher.

So is this the problem with my 2011 FX4? Today, I hopped in the truck and had it on auto at 60 degrees (It's hot in Austin) and the blower maybe runs on low at best. I cannot control the fan speed with the +/- buttons. Just one, medium speed... Frustrating.

Yes. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago and it was doing the same thing. Works good as new. I got it on Amazon for $60 something.

I encountered a similar problem with my 2011 Lariat, except my fan was stuck on low speed. Removed the blower motor and plugged it back in and the thing spun at one slow speed regardless of the dashboard fan setting. Reinstalled the blower motor and replaced the blower motor controller (dual climate control). $80 part and now it works just like before. Thanks to everyone for helping me troubleshoot via your posts.
