Default Block heater and remote start

All of the F150s sold in my area come equipped with a block heater. Can I set this to turn on 1-2 hours before leaving the house AND remote start 5-10 min before leaving without unplugging the block heater?

I didn't know if running the engine with the block heater plugged in could cause any problems.

You can get a timer for your electrical outlet to turn the power on and off to the cord running to your block heater, I would set it to turn on at least 2-3 hours before you leave depending on temp, I just leave mine plugged in all night if its really cold. You can start it with it plugged in with no issues but just remember to unplug it before you drive away.

which one? Yes to both, and aftermarket remote start is better than factory if you get the right one. Dont skimp or you will regret it, a two way page back starter is a must, more range is always better as buildings and other things will interfere making the actual range shorter than the advertised range.

I have a remote start. I like it. Use it on cold days and to start the truck at the deer lease when I'm mostly freezing and trying to get my pants on. Mine works for 15 minutes truck start time. Anyone getting longer times? Seems it shuts off after 15, just when it's about toasty.

That should be programmable up to about 25-30 mins, if you have a good one.

I believe if it is that cold out the thermostat should circulate the coolant and keep the engine operating at the right temperature.

Yeah. I figured I'd hang the extension off of my driver side mirror to keep from having an oops moment.

You can run your motor with the block heater on, no problem. One of my old trucks had 2 block heaters, and I never had to pre-start my truck--when I went outside to drive, warm air was already coming from my heater due to the heat from the block heater!

Aside from being able to change how long your truck idles after a remote start, most remote starters allow you to program an intermitant start every 3 or 4 hours.

When the temp drops to 40 below, or when no plugin is available, I have often used this feature. Truck starts every 3 hours, runs for 15 minutes and waits 3 hours to do it again. Very handy!!!
