blend door

does anyone know how big of a project this is. dealer told my old man 8 hrs to do his on the driver side of his 2010 King Ranch. just ran out of warranty. he is pissed as this truck has been in the shop a lot ( along with my 11 fx4).

hoping it is something I can do myself. he is just about ready to dump this POS!

If you have never pulled the dash off it is every bit of 8 hours. The actuator for the blend door is located in such a position that it sits behind the cross tubing of the frame on which the dash is mounted. You will need an assortment of goose necks and swivels. I had to remove the flow through console of my Lariat to get the dash away from the frame when I pulled the evaporator core. I was working along side an experienced mechanic with all the right tools and we did it in his drive way in a hair under 8 hours including purging and recharging the A/C system.

+1 ^^

Pulling the dash on any vehicle is no walk in the park. They take time no matter what.
If you have the time and tools however, you can definitely do it yourself.

Yep, had mine done just a couple months after I got my '11. It did infact take all day (8 hours). I was told dash had to come completely out in order to get to it.

You would think they would make these things a little more robust. Correct my if I'm wrong this blend door thing is for dual climate controls? I don't have it in my truck or in any of my past vehicles. I guess you got your done under warranty? It seems many of them break shortly after the warranty ends.

Does my 12' xlt have one... or fx trims and up??? FingersCrossed!

Call Ford customer service and complain until they agree to fix the issue for free. Ask to speak with a regional rep.

Don't think so. No one answered my question but I'm pretty sure these are part of dual climate control mechanics. I've also heard them called blend door actuators.

It's on the higher trim level trucks or any vehicle that has dual climate controls. I nice feature to have but expensive to fix when it fails.

i have done a little research. the auto climate dual climate in fact have to of them. If I read right I think all the vehicles with auto have them. but I may be wrong I have been once before.
