blend door
does anyone know how big of a project this is. dealer told my old man 8 hrs to do his on the driver side of his 2010 King Ranch. just ran out of warranty. he is pissed as this truck has been in the shop a lot ( along with my 11 fx4).
hoping it is something I can do myself. he is just about ready to dump this POS! |
6-8 hrs.

+1 ^^
Pulling the dash on any vehicle is no walk in the park. They take time no matter what. If you have the time and tools however, you can definitely do it yourself. |
Thanks everyone... not the news I wanted but expected. I guess its off the the gm dealers. man I hate the thought of it but between both of us the last 5 trucks we have had have been trouble!:censored:

Yep, had mine done just a couple months after I got my '11. It did infact take all day (8 hours). I was told dash had to come completely out in order to get to it.
You would think they would make these things a little more robust. Correct my if I'm wrong this blend door thing is for dual climate controls? I don't have it in my truck or in any of my past vehicles. I guess you got your done under warranty? It seems many of them break shortly after the warranty ends. |
Does my 12' xlt have one... or fx trims and up??? FingersCrossed!

Call Ford customer service and complain until they agree to fix the issue for free. Ask to speak with a regional rep.

Don't think so. No one answered my question but I'm pretty sure these are part of dual climate control mechanics. I've also heard them called blend door actuators. It's on the higher trim level trucks or any vehicle that has dual climate controls. I nice feature to have but expensive to fix when it fails. |
i have done a little research. the auto climate dual climate in fact have to of them. If I read right I think all the vehicles with auto have them. but I may be wrong I have been once before.

I'm pretty sure the blend door just regulates "how much" heat is added to the air based on your temp setting. Also pretty sure most cars have one. I replaced the actuator on my 97 F150 before I traded it, was right in front and took a couple minutes. Dumb move by Ford burying it. Turns a simple repair into a heater core type repair.

shouldn't take a mechanic thats done 1 or 2 heater cores more than an hour to get the dash out, something like eight bolts holds it in, then you slide the whole thing onto the seats

I can tell you that when mine went, it was like 15F outside and I could not get the truck warm on the inside at all. I believe it actually regulates/blends outside air with existing air in the cabin. It would appear on mine that it broke in the full open position. This was on a Lariat with dual climate control, not sure which models have the same set up. |
