It wasn't the 8k color that melted your lenses, it's the hid bulb.

That's the color temp not how hot the bulb gets.

The bulbs should all burn about the same temps.
6k,8k, ?k. They just use a different type of gas in the bulb to give it said color temps.

Anyone with more knowledge can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Bogie, were they 35w or 55w? Did you run them all the time?

That's why I went with led fogs. I read how hot hids run and thought that little housing would melt.

Hid bulbs use different salts to produce color, but yes all the terms should be about the same.

Led will never have the output that halogen or hid will have, direct replacement anyway. If you plan to do led heads, it will be dangerously dim.

We're talking led fogs, however, my fogs are pretty darn bright!
