Haven't found black... but have seen lots of 9" badges on Ebay. Could always 'decal' over them patriotdecals.com

Several others here have done it.
Only one I can think of, off the top of my head is F-amous150

Take a look at his garage for some pics.

Pretty sure you will have to sand the emblem smooth... or actually if you are simply going to put a similar design (different color) over it it would be fine.

This is what I done to mine

I did this after my oval fell off back in the summer. Before putting it back on I used acetone and removed all the blue then I cut a black oval and installed it over the oval. The Ford script on the oval that I cut didn't match exactly the factory one but you have to look close to see the raised chrome script behind it.

That's pretty sexy!

If I didnt already have an Ideal for a decal I would seriously attempt that.

Skyhawk,
That is pretty nice looking. I was thinking about going with the black Ford emblem..or coming up with my own design....but I have no clue what design yet. haha Im not a fan of chrome...and thats the delima. My truck is 98% murdered out..haha..but my rockstar rims have a little chrome and so do the badges....and lets not forget the god ugly chrome turn signals..haha im working on them.

I guess I should've added that I considered just leaving it all chrome after I worked for 2 or 3 days removing the blue (it cleaned up real nice), but it was just a little too much chrome. May look good on some colors though. On a previous F350 (2000 model) I cleaned all the badges down to chrome only and it looked good. The paint on the badges were a lot easier to clean off on that truck to.
