Heck, I've put on a few leveling kits before and I can do in only about 3 hours, it isnt hard at all.
Didn't mean to imply they were easy- my fault. With a full shop, an experienced tech with proper tools though, the extra time wouldn't be as significant as say you or I doing them in our driveway. Ive done the shock replacement, whole assembly replacement, and a few spacers. The shock replacement was by far the biggest PITA- you're right. A good compressor is worth it's weight in gold- and saved body parts
Over the years it's gotten to the point that if somebody asks me to help now, I try to "convince" them that by the time the shocks are due for a refresh- might as well do the whole assembly. You know, for their own good. Mainly so I don't have to cuss like a trucker pi**ing around with those things.

I usually take it off and have a shop take the shock apart and put new one in, then I take it home to install. Pep boys charge me $40 per shock.
