I mean, does anyone really change their tune prior to towing? Reading several of the owners manual seems to indicate that while it is pretty quick to change tunes they all suggest that you disconnect fuses for various electrical components to ensure the battery is at full charge.
Does a single "canned" tune provide a big enough difference in power, mileage, etc to be worthwhile?
I have an SCT X3 and have changed the tune from an 87 Performance to an 87 Tow with no problems. I seemed to have gained better throttle response and a little more HP. I've gained 1 to 2 MPG. It takes around 10 to 15 minutes to load the tune. A little longer if your going from stock. I initially had an issue with the tuner not saving the stock tune but SCT tech support fixed that. I have not had any issues since.

Changing tunes is really quite straightforward, I do it on my Mustang regularly. It just involves plugging it in, removing a fuse and pressing a few buttons.

I would definitely change tunes for towing if it gave me better throttle response and low end trq. If you get better fuel economy, that's a bonus.

One question though, I use TH mode when towing and it works quite well. With a tune that changes the shift patterns, I assume that makes TH mode redundant?

Love the tune. Like Manic said, it makes the truck feel like it has a throttle cable and for driveability alone it is great. I honestly have yet to hook up a trailer yet but 1-2 mpg gain. I have a 93 tune and like Justin claims, Jon also says the tune for towing is the same. Some argue this but Justin and Jon are pretty conservative tuners. They motors have knock sensors I'm told and the logic is good enough to adjust as needed. Trans is also way improved. I have 7200 miles on my truck and have had a tune on since almost 1k on the odometer.

Good advice too about stock tune with SCT. Make sure to do the firmware update first. I had a x.118 and make sure you go with the most recent which is x.122 now. If not the truck will need SCT to force the stock tune in due to a firmware issue.

Is anyone running the edge programmer on their 2010 ford? If so can you tell a difference?

nutty 5.0, are you saying sct tuners are almost as good as edge for power n performance but better cuz theyy adjust the tranny or gas pedal somehow/? please explain?

i am currently thinking edge or sct tuners but price and features are not clear to me yetr.

firstly i want more power and a programmer that will compensate for a magnaflow exhaust and gotts mod if not cai as well.
but i definitely wanna a harder shifting tranny too, at least at half throttle to wot, if not harder all the time.

3rd i would like an economy mode too but 14 mpg and 18 is not much different so not too concerned with mpg

so which is better considering my parameters??
sct or edge?
which is more expensive?

I really can't say anything good or bad about Edge because coming from the mustang world, they're not really a contender. SCT is and is what my tuner uses so what I stuck with. I think either with a custom tune by a reputable tuner will do what you want. I do know SCT can tune the trans and think Edge can too. SCT only recently was able to for a few months. I think Edge shows gauges on the display where SCT is just a tuner that you plug in while tuning and take off when done.

The throttle feeling will be improved by either of them. They improve the feel of the drive by wire that stock feels to me best described as numb.

Basically PM some users of each and see what makes most sense to you. Either should give you the results of all of your requests. Sorry, I know its not an exact answer, but it really is preference and I have never used Edge.

either will get you want you want, its all about the tunner. Edge, Gryphon, CTS, SCT3 its all about how fancy you want to be. I will be upgrading from a sct3 to the CTS as soon as I get the funds I want more guages.
