Actually, his argument is often touted by the gun control fanatics as 'proof' that guns are not viable tools for self-defense. If you look at the statistics, most gun deaths are attributed to suicide, homicide, or accidents. I think the latest statistic is that 43,654,853 children in the US are killed every year playing with their father's gun, which was left loaded/unlocked in a shoebox on the shelf in the bedroom closet. (Look, I just wrote it, so it must be true!)

However...a recent study by the Cato Institute indicates that the number of crimes prevented every year is probably in the 2,000,000+ range, but that most of these are not reported, and it goes on to explain why this is the case.

http://www.cato.org/publications/whi...tance-citizens

If someone tries to rob you, and you pull your gun, and they run away, why would you call the police? So you can spend the next several hours proving your gun is legal and filling out police reports?

Then, even if you do call the police, the local news isn't going to pick up the story of a guy/gal who pulled a gun in self-defense and a robber who ran away. There isn't a story there, for one thing, and it is counter to the media's anti-gun agenda for the second.

This finding, which the gun control lobby abhors and discredits, shouldn't be surprising when studies of rape statistics similarly conclude that 75-95% of rape victims do not report their rapes. The police reports are the tip of a very large iceberg, the size of which cannot be accurately measured.

Anyway, if you have the time and inclination, it's a really good paper.

Now I would think that would technically be concealed, and granted every state has different laws, but it sound to me that if I was traveling to a different state with the same laws passing through a state with different laws I would be legal to transport it through according to that federal law as long as i'm not stopping or taking a scenic route through the different law state.

I understand Illinois doesn't honor CC permits, but I don't think it matters of you have one or not, you can still transport weapons through the state if you met the above requirements

Wow....I think some people just come on here to argue. You CAN transport through Illinois. You CANT have the weapon in reach. Illinois is the ONLY state that wont honor another states CC. I know its hard to understand, and I dont like it either.

I responded to this thread because im a gun owner. I should have just never brought up these Liberal monkey laws in Illinois and just let people find out for themselves if and when they ever drive through.

I carry a weapon for a living so i have deep feelings about this stuff.

Didnt feel like going in to that... It's her agency that wont let her... Im sure she could argue it but why argue with your employer? I personally think police officers should be able to carry their weapon anywhere they want as long as they arent drinking.

"Although the general exemption from state and local laws is clear, there is debate over the effect and scope of policies issued by individual law enforcement agencies in relation to their own employees, where such policies would appear to restrict the ability of a law enforcement officer to carry a firearm.[5] Some argue that the law does not override the internal policies of a department or agency."

Why do you guys carry around guns? Wanna be gangsters who think your cool? I mean c'mon what are you gonna shoot some random dude? WTF would you even risk going to jail and getting a felony record so you can impress someone? Even if its legal where you are why would you do it? Dude if you needed to conceal a weapon would you really be posting a comment on a message board about where to hide it? Why is everyone so afraid of the good old fashioned *** whoopin? Must a been the guy getting beat I guess.

I carry because I can and so I can shoot **** if I feel like it, varmints, not people, unless my life is in danger, which is unlikely but it never hurts to be prepared for anything! Everyone carries in rural areas, you probably won't understand unless you live there for a while.

i love hearing that question. #1 and foremost it is my right as a US citizen to be armed to protect my family, myself, and my fellow citizens around me. #2 do you know the average response time for the police in your area? you might wanna look it up.(im in the hiring process to be law enforcement) #3 my weapon(glock 23 gen 4) has saved my life 3 times already. #4 do you keep a fire extinguisher in your home? have you ever used it? if the answer is yes or no.... i bet you still have them in your home just in case.....same reason i carry a gun.

and that is coming from a US marine. I have gotten into a physical fight(defending myself) throwing punches with my gun concealed but did not have a reason to draw it so it stay concealed.

might wanna do some soul searching. ive heard people just like you too many times and they end up calling me weeks months or years later and saying they wish they had listened to me. i hope you learn easier than some of them that i know.
