My understanding is we cannot use these on 09 and up F150s as there is no relay. Is that true?

A quick google says you're right. It's an integrated function in your Smart Junction Box 2009 and up. Whoops. That's unfortunate. Looks like you're stuck using load resistors instead.

That feels backwards to me.

Supposedly with '11 and up trucks, disabling the bulb outage warning eliminates the need for resistors. I haven't tried it myself to make sure but it has been stated by another member in the Forscan applications thread.

Yes it can be done with Forscan or an IDS tool. I had mine done at the dealer. Basically, they just turn off the "Lamp out indicator" in the BDS module.

I haven't added my LED front signals yet to confirm if it actually works though. I have heard that people have had mixed results.

I have had this issue. I've used both the CANBus and regular LEDs up front after having this done. Kind of irritating, but since I don't want to cut into my harness anymore than I already have for my aux lighting, I'll probably be ordering lights from VLEDs.

I've seen lots of good tips recently.

Be very careful of the tailgate assists. I finally had to undo mine. I will have to tear apart the tailgate when I get home and put a final solution to the whole rivet nut issue. It finally backed out and knurled the threads so I couldn't screw it back in.

For those of us with the Undercover Swing Box. If you were as frustrated as I was, holding the cover open or always having to put a brace in place.
I fabbed up a simple spring assist that is working great. I wanted to work it for a few days, before I put it out there.
I'll take a video or at least pics. Cost was a $1 a side and it works great

Next is a spring assisted way of keeping them in place when they are swung out.

Thanks for the heads up. I do not want to splice any wires, so I'll make up resistors inline with socket extensions if needed.

Tip for the DeeZee assist. Use red lock-tight on the threads. If you want to remove it to get the tailgate off, pop off the retainer that holds the socket on the ball. You can them slip the retainer back on and just snap it back into place. The flare nuts are really finnicky and not a great design.

Do the "raptor mod" and never worry about your deezee again...

I'm not doubting that it will eventually fail, but mine has been good for over a year and I drop the tail gate every day.

I also put a dab of synthetic Grease (really light stuff) on the pivot ***** every 6 months. Not sure if it's helping anything, but I figure it can't hurt.
