Default Backup Camera Problems

I have a 2010 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4 I took my truck through a car wash and my backup Camera quit working. All it’s doing now it’s black and white and it’s flickering. I have been looking at a lot of post and videos and they are saying it’s possible it could be the camera. I’m just wondering if anyone has experience this problem.

before you go throwing a camera in it(they are not cheap)

take the connector apart where the wire goes from the truck into the tailgate. make sure no water got in there

Agree with djfmmn- Check the simple things first- the connector is just under the tailgate on drivers side, easy to get too, (didn't help for me, but I cleaned it anyhow.

Submitted some images, and someone said it seems that water got inside of the camera lens. SO I used some rubbing alchool and lots of Q-tips and tried to get it soaked and let alcholol evaaporate- Worked some. Still goes on and off, and now been about 18 monthis.

On notes with thiis. My wife's 2011 Lincoln had the same problem, bought ext warranty from dealer (CarMax), and that paid for itself right there- new camera works great.

Neighbor has a 2010 Lariat like mine, and his did the same thing. Dealer fixed for him, and not another problem.

Replacing the camera means destroying a bezel and emblem (Thanks Ford for lame-- design there). I am going to get mine replaced eventually aftet I get the tailgate scratch fixed. 200-300$ for the OEM camera- (I am going to upgrrade to the one that fits in the handle (a company can retro fit these), I noticed it on a 2016 Lariat I rented. I liked it better.

Mine still goee on and off- Still ugly piccture at night- Hope new camera fixes it.

I do think the rrubbing alcholol swabbed heavily around the lense helped.

From my overall view- just bad design-

Let me know how ya make out. Sucks, ya gotta break a bezel and emblem to get to to camera. (butt there is always glue

You figure out what is going on yet? Mine has been acting up for couple of years. Seems to work better in cooler temps, but still sucky image. Just saying the 300$ for new one. If that doesn’t fix it I think I am done with the truck. Paid for and just dollars and diming me now. Ouch on the wallet
