all done! took about 3 hours, super easy to follow instructions too long to list everything i did, cam works very well 😀
i installed the other camera in the front, that was not so easy, just ordered a lcd monitor for it as it creates an interferance with the rear cam in the rearview mirror, mods needed to the grill, got her all done then went outside to put the grill back on the truck and realised the cam was upside down 😡
so i took an exacto knife to cut the 2 way tape........... well i stabbed myself good on the side of my hand just below the thumb 😬
but got it all done too, just waiting for monitor 😀

This is the one option I didn't get that I knew I wanted and would regret. Thanks for posting this up!
I work at a dealer, in Audi parts. And somebody else was right, 25% is almost nothing for a mark up, especially from a dealer. Ours is in the neighborhood of 40-60%, as is probably every other Audi dealer from using the same nationwide price tape update. I like to give an Audi club discount when I can. It helps knock some off that. I can tell my local Ford dealer is not marking stuff up a lot, that or the parts cost is cheap. Much cheaper than an Audi for sure.
On the issue of the parts guy. He's lazy, not entirely stupid though, and I know you didn't use that name. I will say the parts diagrams used now that are vin operated are a godsend if it's a picture with a butt-load of options. There could be 15 left side door panels for a 14 F-150. And I bet there is, cause mine is black and grey, I've seen others all black, and then there is leather etc etc, Platinum and XLT's all probably different. Your parts guy "can" decode the option codes but was too lazy to figure out how to exclude the stuff you didn't want, for your camera parts. It should have been easy, dimming or not, camera or not, compass or not, that kind of thing. It's easy to get used to clicking the button to highlight only the vin specific parts in any diagram. Of course when the guy told you what you already knew, it would have been a good time to ask to talk to somebody with more experience. Then decoding the option codes associated with the part numbers is easier since that person can navigate the system with more precision and accuracy. Good news is, you'll get the right part with the vin, unless he gives out a left when you asked for a right. Bad news is, well, you already know that.
I tried that at my local dealer too. I wanted to see how much FX4 flares are. My STX doesn't have them, and was curious. They needed a vin. So I went in their lot and found 2 different vin numbers. One for painted, other a black slightly textured flare. Found out the system tried to include Raptor flares and the vin eliminated them. I was surprised Raptor didn't have it's own catalog within the system. Then found the painted and non painted part numbers supersede to the same part number anyway. So, a vin wasn't really needed. Except to eliminate the Raptor flares. The problem with the diagrams is, they might show only one flare, for a LF corner and it won't look anything like a Raptor flare for example. But the part numbers off to the side in the text categories don't tell the parts guy which one is Raptor, FX4, black for unpainted applications. If their system is like ours, you have to decode each option code to figure out what those codes mean. It is a bit of a pain to do, and I think all people in parts should be able to figure that kind of situation out. It is the job after all, knowing the system they work with. The manager would think "lose the sale?" Myself I'd be more frustrated with me not being able to help answer the customers question on parts fitment. That's just me though.
To any Ford parts employees that might be members, no offense. I'm assuming things about your system that might not be similar to my Audi/VW system I'm used to.

think i'm gonna have to crown myself "the king of what the f$$k do i need that for?" LOL
the rear camera i installed not too long ago works amazingly well!, especially when backing up in a parking space of today's shopping mall parking lots made big enough for a toyota yaris, but i've decided to istall one on the front too!!! 😜
with a lift kit, it's sometimes not easy to see how close you are to the car ahead when pulling into a tight spot, but now it is! LOL
both camera are cheap and easy to install/configure and are "cool to me" gadgets 😜
you want the same? tailgatecamera.com had fairly fast but free shipping and they have O.E.M. parts for ford/gm/dodge and a bunch of camera related items.
have fun upgrading 😜

I've been very tempted to do the same type of thing on my '12, but really like the dimming driver's side mirror. It is my understanding that this is controlled by the interior mirror. With this upgrade, do you still have the door mirror dimming or have you lost that ability?

never heard of dimming driver's side mirror, rearview mirror yes, but this rear view mirror you will lose that option, instead, buy this monitor and hook up camera on it, monitor has 2 inputs, so you can have 2 cameras like me without changing the mirror

If your mirror has the factory compass gyro inside then you can get this kit instead and not have to relocate the compass circuit:

To test the gyro unplug your mirror and if you have dashes in your compass then you will either need the gyro mirror or the relocation kit with the first kit I have linked above.
Both of the above systems use OEM Gentex mirrors, which are made in the USA for all the major auto mfgrs so you can expect the best. Some mirrors (foreign made) are way less expensive but you lose features and they lack brightness making the screen very difficult to see on a bright sunny day.
We back the mirror and camera with a 3 year warranty also.
Give a call if you have questions as we are always willing to assist!

Do you know the make and model of that monitor?
