Default attempted break in

Hello all, my wife recently purchased a used 2012 fx4 with the key pad on the door. today when I went to use the car noticed that the plastic panel around the key pad was cracked on both sides as if someone was attempting to pry off the key pad. my question is if they are successful at it, will they be able to open the door? plus, is there something that I can do to prevent this from happening? Thanks

Electrify the shell of your truck.
Hire guards to stay with it always.
Never go anywhere.
Beat it down some so nobody would want to steal it.
Move to outstate Minnesota.

04-14 trucks are very easy to break into, they all use the same door handle. Jimmy Jammers is what you are looking for to protect the stock setup.

The lock hole is where it's vulnerable. Some guys remove the drivers side handle with the lock entirely, and put in a non-lock equipped rear door handle. Has to be custom if you have the keypad though- Ford doesn't sell a handle with the keypad holes but no lock cylinder hole. You can cut out the holes for the keypad on a rear door handle, or fill in the lock hole on a front door handle. Depends on if you have bare plastic or painted handles as to what the easiest approach is. In this scenario, you are stuck if your keyless entry and keypad go out, or if they battery dies and it's locked. Some guys who've done it have put remote battery jump leads up front so they can juice up a dead battery without needing to raise the hood (since you can't get in to release the hood).

Edit- another easy fix is to reroute/relocate/armor/protect the wiring for your horn or the entire horn/wiring feed. Thieves will reach up and cut the wire to the horn before the break in.

thanks for the responses. guess I'm part of a statistic group now. Didn't realize thieves were interested in pick up trucks. thought they were into the luxury vehicles only. should have kept my 98 rust bucket 150.

Probably more into pickups, at least in some areas.

Don't go thru life not buying nice things because of thieves. If you do you're letting them steal your right to pursue happiness. Get insurance instead and let them worry about theft/damage etc.....
