Default Appearance package stripe removal

Hey guys so this is my first post here even though I have been lurking here for a while gaining knowledge where I can.

I Picked up a 2012 Oxford white with the appearance package on black friday in 2012 and have long been debating removing the stripes.

I know this is a common question but I haven't been able to find a clear cut answer. How hard is the decal to remove and would there be any "yellowing" of my paint that was not covered by the stripe? I have been quoted from several dealerships and body shops anywhere from $300 to $700 and all of them say atleast 4-5 hours work which to me seems a little ridiculous. I'm no professional mechanic but I have done enough work on my previous rig to know when I'm being thrown for a loop. It really just seems like one big sticker. Basically can this be done at home with some heat or is it worth paying a bodyshop to do?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to your replies!

Thats What I was thinking! It's just every single place I called freaked out about the fact that my paint might have faded already and how it would require a lot of buffing if it had. Just didn't want to mess up a paint job without atleast asking you guys

Thanks!

Another member on here has a white screw (Northlight) that took the stripes off but he did it when he first got it. that was only 6 months ago or so for you so I would say do it yourself its just a big sticker. like Toddman said get the heat gun and go at it my guess is 30-45 mins if you take your time.

Ya I've seen Northlight's and really like it! I'm really looking for feedback from someone who has actually taken the strip off themselves and how they did it. Thanks for the input though!

I'm always blown away by the way some body shops treat you guys on here. 4-5 hours of labor? Seriously? To buff out faded paint that might not even be faded? Insurance companies won't even pay that much buff time labor on a complete paint job!

Basically, that's body shop code for, "yeah, we don't really want to do it."

I will admit white will be the first color to fade, but not so much anymore with newer paint. I've pulled bedside decals off of 04-08 trucks (fx4/4x4, etc) with little to no fading. And if there was? Maybe an hour or 2 at MOST, so we'd charge (at my shop) $40-80 max to buff. We are competitively priced though.

Peel it yourself and if it is faded then the body shop only has to buff it out (not peel stickers) so you save some bucks, o and find another shop!

I am going to peel my 2012 FX4 stickers off and hope for the best!
