No the actual chrome and Ford lettering is foil and the foil is coming off. Considering my truck is 7 months old this is ridiculous.

Something doesn't look right here. My tailgate oval fell off back in the summer and while I had it off I used acetone and removed the blue paint. I done this on all the badges on a 2000 Super Duty that I had and it was simple and fast. I scrubbed for 2 days on that blue paint. I didn't really like the look of all chrome so I cut a black vinyl overlay for it and put it back on so now it's a "black oval". I said all that to say this, the blue oval is painted on, there's no clear epoxy overlay or anything like that. Of course mine is an 09 model but I wouldn't think the 10 would be any different.

Ya, something does not look right. Looks like you can see wrinlkes above the oval even in the white paint. Like the whole tail gate has a film on it ?

I believe the "wrinkles" that appear to be in the white paint are just reflections of the flash off of the badge.

I have never seen it, and we will probably never determine exactly what the cause was either. The good news is, Ford will replace it.

After looking at the new pic ...I am feeling more confident in tell you that that film should come off. The Ford lettering should appear as chrome colored. It looks nothing my 2010...! It really does look like their is a protective plastic covering it that was just not removed.
