Default Anyone replace the 2 catalytic converters themselves?

I have a 2012 Crew 5.0L

If yes, did you have to remove the transmission mount cross-member to get it out/ new one in? I do not want to unbolt the starter to clear the 2 hangers.

If anyone can lend some hands on experience I'd appreciate it.

FYI my Pass cat went bad @ 84,000, dealer wants 1300.00 to replace it. I passed and purchased these two and that's where i'm currently at.

Transmission cross member had to be removed, finished up around noon.
Pretty easy install with the right tools.

Here is what the pass cat looked like when I removed it.

Recommendation: Find out what is wrong with your engine's fuel system. Cats should never go bad, and they won't, unless you have a fuel mixture problem. If you don't fix the causative problem, you'll be replacing the new cats too. (no fun)

That converter should be under warranty. Anything with emission system is covered for 100000mile. Fed law. California emission vehicles are 150000

8 years 80,000 miles on emission items.

I see that. went out and checked my truck. PZEV's are 100/150k miles. still, at 84,000, I'd raise a stink at ford- maybe you can get cheap parts...

also, x2 on above- what caused this converter to fail? I had a 2002 sport trac with 263,000 miles with the original converters. you may have a leaking injector or misfire, vacuum leak, etc. a full system checkout would be a good idea

Agreed 100%
I'm in the process of data-logging, I have a 5 star tune but I think it might be my downfall. I was changing tunes about every 2-3 weeks sometimes every week giving my driving requirements. going from 91 tow/pref, 87 eco, 87 pref, E85 pref, 91 eco, stock (anytime I had to take it in for any type of work).
So i'm thinking I could have been my own worse enemy.

Also, there is a huge quality difference in OEM cats & Aftermarket (Magnaflow). OEM repl. was 1500.00 for the pass side, 1300.00 for driver.
Magnaflow was 850.00 together. comparing the quality, OEM = paper mache, Aftermarket = tank

I surmise that using the tuner pretty much voided the warranty... oh well. keep us posted....
