Anyone that has OWNED 5.0 and Eco-boost
I know it's kind of a long shot, but I'm looking for anyone that has owned or atleast driven with regularity a 5.0 and Eco-boost. I owned an '11 Eco-boost and loved it but unfortunately had to sell it a couple months back. I'm in the market again for a F-150 and am back to the debate of which do I get. I am looking to see if anyone has owned both and what they liked / disliked about each. I think after owning them or driving them regularly, you find more things that you like / don't like more than you would just on a test drive. I've test driven both and like both. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I have not owned an eco boost let alone any other Ford until this F150 (2103) with a 5.0. My last two vehicles were a 392 Dodge SRT8 Challenger that ran 12.3 all day long and a SRT10 Ram with 500HP and 525lbs Tq. My 5.0 is 100 percent fitting for the truck and satisfies anything I do or would want to do. The F150 is not a racer (although people try and make it as such) and while I can't speak for the eco boost, the 5.0 is an outstanding and very competent engine and this is coming from a guy who is used to high horsepower engines.
Good luck with your choice and if you decide on the Eco Boost, it seems they are all fixed up for the 2013 MY as far as troubles.

Owned both, here is a thread I made comparing the 2: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/traded...oughts-137495/
Loved the Eco when it was running good, but also love the 5.0L. I think I like my truck with the 5.0L better, but thats just because of the upgraded trim. Not sure what to tell you. I loved the Eco, and the only reason I'm not driving one now is because of the condensation issue in the intercooler. Having said that, this 5.0L keeps impressing me all the time.

We have two Eco's (2011 Xlt 4x4 & 2012 Lariat 4x4) and one 5.0 (2wd Xlt). The Eco's get the same mileage as the 5.0 when running dry but are peppier to drive as they have more immediate throttle response and less induction noise. When towing they both get within a few tenths of each other when towing 3000 lbs ratchet that up to an Eq trailer with 8,000 towing weight the difference increases to a mile a gallon less on the 5.0 and longer times to accelerate. 5.0 has to rev and work harder than Eco. Shift points to get up to highway speed are 3-3,500 on Eco and 4,500-5,500 on 5.0.
No major issues on any of them except cac update on 2012 that seems to have mostly cured the buck at low engine lugging speeds, though manually downshifting one gear solved that too.

Puts to rest, the argument of the 5 getting better mileage when towing.

EDIT - Just so I'm clear, I'm not saying the 5.0L would get better mileage towing that weight. I really don't know, but your statement is the problem here, and just trying to take a jab for whatever reason.
