Anybody glad they have the 5.4?
I was just wondering, anyone glad they have the 5.4. I almost traded my 2010 5.4 4x4 with 11k the other day for a new ecoboost. Then I figured I only owe 4k, might as well keep it!

sure why not. My truck is paid off and only has 18k miles due to short commute. I'm waiting for the redesign model, I don't see the point of buying another truck that looks exactly same (other than a different color). I know a few guys with the new motors and they're only getting 1 or 2mpg better than my truck, driving the same roads.

I seriously thought about trading my 2010 5.4 for a similar ecoboost, but it looks like the fuel mileage improvement of the 3.5 didn't really match the hype. The next body style (2014?) might be tempting though.

Originally wanted to find a used ecoboost or 5.0 but couldn't find a good price. Eventually found my 09 5.4 with everything I wanted except the TBC which I added and got it for about 10k less which pays for a lot of gas

I do like the 5.4 in an F150 but.....
They can have shuddering problems at 65 or so...
Poor gas mileage especially the 4x4
Very sensitive to 5w20 oil and motorcraft filters every 3000 miles....
Top end oil pressure problems and very complex hydraulics for timing gear...
Be prepared to spend $2000 minimum on a timing gear, rockers and lash adjusters at about 100,000 miles if you want to keep it for 200,000 miles
Gearshifts and accelerator response can suck at times
but its a great engine when running well, strong and smooth and I love the supercrew King Ranch edition.

I love my 5.4L. I've already upgraded most of the things I want. I still have 1" daystar level kit sitting on my workbench and 4 Rockford Fosgate 1632 speakers and adapters coming next week. After that, maybe AAL or Timbren in the rear so it won't squat when I load the bed with the Daystars installed.
I haven't driven a F150 with the EcoBoost but I've driven the 5.0 and I don't think it's worth the upgrade. With the Edge tuner, the 5.4L and 6spd drives great and no issues with EPAS and other issues the newer trucks are having.
And what's a thread without pics?
