Question Any Hams in the house?

We got any hams out there that have suggestions for setting up an IC 706 mkIIg in a crew cab 150? I finally figured out how to get the rear seats to fold away from the rear wall but the silly vents they have in the back are a bit confusing because if you run anything through them the stop functioning properly, i.e. you end up with the cab being open to the outside. I'd rather not have a bunch of bees making a nest out of my back seat. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Look in the installation forums on radioreference.com for some ideas. If you're talking about running coax for your antenna, you can use a grommet under the sill cover at the back doors. Plenty of people, including me, ran it through the vent though, without problems...probably worrying about nothing.

I had mine run through the vent and water would run down the coax into the truck! Go with the grommet! It's a big enough hole you can get a PL259 through it!

Grommet and seal, make sure there is a little slack (drip loop/U) just before it enters the truck (slack of coax will be lower than the entrance hole) so any water running down the coax will drip off before it reaches the truck.

Another idea you may want to look at is running coax through the floor, there is already drainage holes/molding mounting holes from the factory. Never tried it but remember looking at that as an option on my last install.

It's important to incorporate a 'drip loop' when running coax into a vehicle regardless of entry point. You don't want a full loop since that would act like a choke, but a couple inches drop in a 'u' configuration solves water creeping in where it doesn't belong. This keeps strain off the coax during vibration/movement as well.

Default 90 Percent There

Well I managed to get everything put in today, I used the vent in the rear since the floor drains are not accessable under the truck. I left a drip loop in between the bed and the cab. The only issue I'm having now is getting the 10 M and 6 M sticks to tune. Kinda like they are not there ATM. Thanks for all the thoughts and help

pictures? Where did you mount the antennas? Finding a good ground plane on this truck, or a good mounting point in general is tough unless you're using the roof!
