Another Transmission Question
The transmission woes have been hammered in the dirt and I hope this doesn't open up any old wounds, but I'm not sure and I've read the posts on trans problems and couldn't find the symptom my 2010 is having. Guess I need to lay it on the table for a look-see.
Has anyone else felt a harder than normal bump in the drive train at low speed?
I've got a little over 10K miles on my 4.6-3v 6 speed and lately I've noticed at idle speed what I would call slack in the drive train or a bump like it dropped out and back in gear. Doesn't happen often. Let's say I'm coasting through a parking lot at 3MPH, then ease over and tap the accelerator for some momentum while going up a grade or making a U turn......... THUMP!!
As soon as I touch the gas it's like I've been tapped from behind by a golf cart. It's very light but very noticeable. I can't say that I've noticed any shudder or random downshifting as mentioned elsewhere. This is just a single bump in the drive line that was first noticed after an 1100 mile trip.
The transmission has always felt differently than the old "analog" transmissions I've had before like the old C4, C6, TH350 so I expect a little quirkiness now and then with a computer controlled gizmo. I know the computer adjusts to the driving habits and wondered if it picked up some odd pattern during my trip. I did haul about 800lbs of goods on my way back but I wouldn't think that would cause it.
I dunno...
... maybe I'm trying to find logic here when I don't have enough information, but I do know that mostly I'm trying to convince myself it doesn't need to go to the dealer. It was flashed about 6K ago when I had it in for some trim work.
Does this sound like anything you have ever heard of?
Thanks,
Randy

This sounds like you need to get the slip yoke on the drive shaft greased. I've read of several people with fairly new 2011s needing this. Also, the symptom sounds the same as I experienced in a 2006 V8 4Runner. The 4Runner required grease about twice a year.
I'm not sure if this is a DIY thing or if you need to have the dealer take care of it. But for now, it should be covered under warranty.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to ask them to take a look at it so I can at least get a record started.
