Default another towing question

I know this has been beat to death but I will ask again anyway. I am having trouble searching the archives.

I have a 2011 SCAB ecoboost with tow package (not max tow) and it is rated at 9800# tow capacity. I am looking at a travel trailer with a GVR of 7500#.

My question is does anyone have a similar truck that has towed this much weight for a long distance? Do I need to look for a smaller trailer?

Few questions for you before answering

What is the payload on your sticker? (tow rating is useless)
What is the empty pin weigh of the trailer?
What is the empty weight of the trailer?

Ciao

That would not really help him.
I've got a 33' that is about 5,500 empty.
I had a 27' that was closer to 7,000

IronJoce's questions will help narrow it down a bit.

Airlifter, I'm guessing (you will have to check) that you have 3.55 gearing (Pretty sure it comes on the 'tow package')

Initially I think you would be pretty good to tow it. You would have to watch the weight you carry in the truck and the trailer but it should be OK. Knowing the answers to IronJoce's questions would help a bit. As well as anything you might have added (It all adds up in the weight).

My trailer has the same gross rating, but it always comes in at under 6000 lbs loaded for a trip. Power-wise, it’s not an issue. Even less so for an Ecoboost. But I have 3.73 gears. What’s yours?

My trailer is 29 feet long, so it’s just right for my wheelbase. What’s your trailer’s overall length and what’s your SCAB’s wheelbase?

The numbers work out. I checked the GVWR, tongue weight and the GCVWR and I am ok there.

What I am looking for is someone with real world experience towing this weight.

Thanks again

I have a 2011 eco scab with the standard tow package and a 3.15 open diff and a 8800 lb tow rating. I have not towed a travel trailer but I have put several miles on my 18 ft flatbead car hauler [6800 to 7400 depending on load I try to keep my tounge weight around 600 pounds I know this is a bit light for the trailer weight but I have a short shank hitch and it handles very well. keep in mind the frontal area of a tt will give you more wind resistance. Your eb will pull just about any thing you can hook to it but its best to stay within the weight limet set by ford and a wise investment would be a WDH if you are going to tow on a reguler basis. Keep your speed reasonable and enjoy
