Angry Another blown motor....

Good day, I have joined the blown motor club!!! I have a 2009 F150 that didn't accelerate as it should when trying to merge into traffic on the highway, or pull a hill. We did a tune-up replacing wires, spark plugs, and had the oil changed. Still nothing changed. Took it to a shop to have the fuel line, filter and fuel pump checked...all was good. I then took it to a transmission shop and there was not problem there either. Searched and found a shop that stated they were Ford Performance Specialists! Yay!!!!! Five days short of two months, I get a call saying that the engine was blown. I drove it in and towed it out. While the shop had it, they redid the tune-up and wires. Replaced the two 02 sensors which he said were the code that was given off. Nothing worked...still not fixed. He replaced the cam phasers, put the motor back together, took it for a test drive and the motor blew. He refused to do anything else to the truck. Needless to say, I had to buy a motor and have it put in. What did he do that would cause the motor to blow? The motor sounded fine, and only had an issue when you would try to gun it and go fast.

These are the pics that were sent to me from the mechanic. I have no idea what I'm looking at. Could any of you pros tell me what happened? I really need some help to see if he was negligent repairing it and caused the motor to blow.

Thank you

Is that the only damage on the engine? Are all of the pistons and rods still where they're supposed to be?

I see your intake valve lifter fingers are gone and that valve stem is damaged, and one entire intake valve spring and valve are gone.

I assume this is what happens when the piston smacks into the intake valves. If the piston and rod are still connected to the crank as they're supposed to be, then this tells me that the cam was mis-timed and the intake valves were open when they shouldn't have been. I've never done phasers/timing on that engine, but it's totally believable that it could have been put together wrong and wrecked itself on the test drive. I'd be leaning reeeeal hard on that shop.

Yea, it appears he put it together wrong and wanted to walk away Scot-free.

As he refused both responsibility and liability for the damage, and you've already spent the coin to get a replacement motor, your likely recourse is small claims court...

That was my thought as well. There was no way that he put it back together correctly. I have a court date 6-21-21 and just needed to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Thank you so much for your time.

They put it back together wrong or ignored major scoring and likely follower damage when they replaced the phasers. To me this is a result of poor mechanical repair. Id be looking for legal recourse.

All those fresh metal filings near the missing valve along with a ground up camshaft lobe from the test drive?
Oh that is bad news.
