Default Airaid question

So i bought the airaid cai when only the filter and airbox were available, now they have the tube available. Can that be purchased alone, if so do yall beleive its a benefit? Also, how much louder is it than the factory one with the silencers, or whatever they are? Thanks.

It will be louder, but I cannot tell you how much. Besides the difference in conducting heat, they say a plastic tube will less noisy than an aluminum tube.

Well kent, what year and what engine do you have? The 5.4 3V has a long intake tube with a large plastic plenum which includes a total of 6 intake resonators (heimholtz filters) to kill the intake sound. The air box breaths through the tiny snorkel which also quiets things down unless you did a gots mod. In the case of the 5.4, i would say, hell yes! Get a aftermarket tube in order to get ride of the resonators. Some of the other engines have very short tubes with only one or two resonators, so changing the tube might not be worth it. Whatever engine you have will be s bit louder with just the filter set up you have due to not having to breath through the air box. however, changing the tube, as long as you delete as many resonators as possible, will be much louder. The question is how many resonators do you have? And how many will the new intake tube delete? Read my write up on intakes that i did.

I'll search for your write up but a link in your post would have been nice!

I bought the Airaid filter & airbox setup and then added the rest of the 'full CAI' kit from Airaid directly - they have no problem selling you the parts and will just package it up for you - it is much louder on acceleration and WOT than stock - worth it with a custom tune - otherwise really just a noisemaker
