Just read through this whole mess of a thread. I was curious as my 01 has started having this issue randomly over the last year and my 13 has been riddled with problems. Very good read with 2 take aways -

1 the ford service reps are a joke and it’s hilarious to watch them be so active in the thread and then just completely disappear as a home brewed repair that works shows up.

2 kudos to the guys figuring out the Lysol patch. My fav pet of these forums is the ingenuity of the users. Will be giving this a try after some other inspections on my 01 and possibly my 13.

Sorry for the necro-thread but I noticed this too in my truck Time to go to the dealer and see what they have to say

Open a new tube of caulk....thats what mine smells like. Goes away after 30 secs or so. Never enough of an issue to worry about.

So before I spend money on the dealership, it sounds as though there is no "cure" for this, is that correct?

i tried the Lysol thing with no success.

Are you running your AC regularly?

I posted this in the other thread:

Another option: buy/rent an ozone generator. Let it run in the cab with recirculate on for 1/2 hr, then let it sit for 20 mins, then air it out. The O3 will oxidize any organic material causing the odor.

I found mine at a pawn shop for $75....its a $600 machine. Used it on all of our vehicles and its worth it weight in gold.

Lysol works if it is mold/mildew from poor draining. If you have an actual refrigerant leak, it will continue as long as there is a leak and probably not be overly affected by the Lysol, anyway.

You could have also done the Lysol treatment poorly, or need another treatment.

So I guess I do need a dealer to look at this. Is there some sort of TSB out on this??
