Default Aftermarket sway bars: What's the final verdict from owners?

My goal is to reduce body roll and improve handling and control on the street--I could care less about offroading or preserving articulation. Any hauling/towing benefits are great, but are secondary.

I've already reviewed all of the archived threads that I could find about sway bars, and it appears there are a few people who have performed this modification. Most of those threads were kind of old though (2011).

I'd like to know if everyone is still happy with their sway bars? Is this a worthwhile mod, and would you do it again?

Is Hellwig still the only game in town, or are there more options now that it's almost 2014? (Does Ford Racing or Roush offer their own product?)

Also, it seems most people only added a rear bar vs. replacing both. I'm hesitant about only buying a rear bar as I worry that might upset the truck's handling balance. But I'm interested to hear more about this subject, especially from anyone who upgraded the rears only or installed both bars separately (rear first, front later).

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I'm in on this as well. Been thinking about doing this mod for awhile.

BMWBig6 ... Is this a worthwhile mod, and would you do it again?
YES! Without any reservation. It was the best handling mod' done followed by 20" x 10" rims and 55series YOKOHAMA Parada Spec-X tires.

Just adding the rear sway bar will meet/exceed your requirements ...

To the best of my knowledge Hellwig is it. Nothing from Ford Racing Performance Parts nor ROUSH (yet).

Only installed the rear and left the front OEM as is. That was 2years ago and am very satisfied with the balance and handling (loaded or unloaded).

I bought the Hellwig rear swaybar. Installed on EcoBoost 4x4 Supercrew 157" wheelbase. Definitely a must-do mod. Body roll is reduced, but frankly I don't care about that too much. The truck just turns better now. It used to start a turn and then feel like it was "pushing" through. Now it turns in so much better. Still no sports car, but way, WAY better than stock. Do it.

I would think that the rear is all you would want as well. Have you seen that front sway bar? It's ridiculously huge!

I have both front and rear bars on my truck. They sure do help out body roll and make the truck easier to turn as stated above. The front bar is pretty big.

Thanks for all of the feedback! Are there any drawbacks (stiffer/harsher ride, noise/rattles, etc.)?

How much should I expect to pay to have one or both bars installed? Or did all of you install them yourselves (I think special tools and a vase are required, right?)?

Seems like most of you did the rear bar only and are happy with the results. Does anyone know the size/rating difference between the stock front bar and the Hellwig one? I only see the diameter posted on Hellwig's site. I'm not sure if they are direct apples to apples comparison (hollow vs. solid bar).

.
Regarding front sway bar diameter ...
  • 1-3/8" - OEM
    .
  • 1-1/2" - Hellwig
    .
  • The Hellwig is 1.42% stiffer () *Reference
    .
  • Both are solid.
And FTR .. The Hellwig rear diameter is 1-1/8".

Installation (rear): Can be done in the driveway with hand tools, though IMO having the vehicle on a lift is easier.
