Default Aftermarket head unit

I have a 2012 without sync and I would like to replace the headunit, what are my options without affecting the temp and compass display.

I'm in the same position of considering replacing the stock unit with an aftermarket one.
From what I've read here on the forum the compass and temp displays will remain. The only things affected are the center part of the display --- F150 tough -- will be constantly displayed and of course the clock will disappear.

This makes sense -- the compass ( on the left ) and temp ( on the right ) are different colors than the center display. These are readouts that are tied into sensors and nothing to do with the stereo.
Whereas the center portion of the display is the data readout from the OEM stereo ( via the BCM I believe ).

However, if -- for whatever reason -- you have to make a *Compass zone adjustment* ( page 98 of the maual ) this can only be done with the OEM head unit. This isn't a deal breaker for me though.

Oh , and the Auxillary audio input jack will be non-functional.

My display stays on "DVD" and according to the guys at Crutchfield, that's normal.

Golfer is right, otherwise.

I put in a Pioneer head unit (AVH-P4400BH) and couldn't be happier. I also add the XM add-on and the navigation add on goes in this weekend (mixed feelings on that one).

I also upgraded the front speakers -- best complementary change to the system I could have done. The new HU sounded good before but it sounds AMAZING after the speaker upgrade.

same here..

My stock unit died on my 2010 so I put in a Sony and have DVD in the display also.....My truck has never had a DVD player which I thought was odd..

Temp still reads out just fine when the truck is running (its shut off in this pic)....

X3 on dvd only. I get
"F150"
"built ford tough"

at startup then it stays on dvd after that. Would be cool to somehow leave it on built ford tough.......

My stx didnt have a compass or temp factory
