Default aftermarket backup camera?

Just curious if anyone here has installed an aftermarket backup camera? I really wasnt wanting to spend the amount of money Ford wanted for the nav screen, so I might be looking into something aftermarket. I've done alot of looking and cant really find any good revivews on ANY aftermarket setups.

Just curious,
thanks

I installed a Boyo setup. I bought a license plate camera and a monitor separately because the kits I found came with a 1" round camera and I didn't want to drill a hole. Installation was fairly easy. The camera has a very wide angle and it works well at night even though it is not infrared. Check out sonicelectronix.com

Yeah, I had a tough time getting it to load to. after reading the threat on installing a "factory" backup system and the 38 pages that took, I simply want an easy to install aftermarket setup. I have read though that the wireless ones really are not that great of quality, because they seem to flicker and take a while to load when you put in reverse....but I have yet to see one in person to make my own judgement.

Huh? I haven't had any problems with the site. Mine is a wired system. I researched wireless and also found that they are almost worthless.

I am running the Boyo VTL425 license plate camera. Monitor is a Garmin Nuvi 5000 (which of course doubles as a GPS). Only problem is its boot time when first setting out.

My FX4 came with every option in the book EXCEPT the factory back up camera.....arrrggh! I have the Sony Stereo/Nav unit. I paid a visit to a local shop that does high end electronic, stereo and other vehicle mods. I am looking at a camera that attaches at the license plate. There is a module that must be programmed and installed by a techie that knows what he is doing as he also apparently has to reprogram the NAV unit to recognize this module. It was explained to me that install is quick, the reporgramming is time consuming, pretty much an all-day affair. This will then have the back up camera view come to the nav screen automatically when the truck is shifted to reverse. They quoted me $650 in parts and labor.

I check with a second shop who gave me pretty much the same intell....the difference being that they don't have a techie that knows how to do it. They said the entire unit would have to be pulled out, sent to another shop for the reprogram......gone anywhere from 4 days to two weeks. Two weeks with no radio, no sync phone stuff, etc????!!! Shoot me now!!! Plus they quoted $850 to $900.

I have started a seperate fund for this mod.

I could be wrong.....it has happened before (two ex-wives to prove that)..... I think if you install the factory back-up camera the picture does not go to the navi monitor, but to the rear view mirror instead. I will look into this.

I recently added one of the aftermarket jobs available at our local Canadian Tire for approx $150. Was easy to install, uses a wireless connection from camera sending unit to monitor. Picture is very good. I get the occasional static as I havent properly mounted my sending unit yet (keep forgetting to get the double sided tape). I really wanted the factory unit, but this is not a bad alternative at all. And I Can take easily unmount it if needed.
