Default Advice on ecoboost

My father wants a new 2011 (he has a 2009 currently). He seems set on the 5.0 but I've read a lot of good things about the ecoboost and want him to at least consider it. It looks like it's matched up with a 3.15 gear ratio and he does pull a trailer sometimes.

My questions are can the ecoboost handle towing without opting for a higher ratio? And does the higher gear ratio sacrifice the higher fuel economy that motor brings?

Any other advice, comments, or reviews would be greatly appreciated.

EB with a tow pkg will have either 3.55 or 3.73.

I'm averaging 18.7 mpg with my EB with the 3.55 gears. That's mixed driving probably 70/30 city/hwy

My eco has 3.73 gears and I have no problem getting 20mpg combined city/hwy.

In my opinion:

You get the 5.0L V8 if you want that wonderful V8 Sound track...

You get the Ecoboost is you want max efficiency and towing capacity...

In time, the EB will put the 5.0 out of business. The only advantage the 5.0 has, like said above, is sound, thats all.

But 5.0 does not have that sweet sound of the turbos.

It's your Dad's truck, let him decide for himself.

How?? I've been driving like a grandma, using cruise control whenever I can and today just barely crept up to 16mpg avg.
