Default Advice on 2009 purchase?

Hi All,

First time poster and reader. I wanted to reach out for some help concerning Ford and their 09 F-150's. I was looking for some buyer advice on how to approach dealers. I was wondering if anyone had any tricks to get the dealers down in MSRP. Obviously a trade brings it down a bit but I know there are a lot of separate taxes and things they add to the price of the vehicle in Canada that you don't necessarily need.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm 24 and this will be my first vehicle purchase from a dealer.

Regards,
Ry

If this is your first new car/dealer purchase you better take an expierence buyer in with you. In addition, I never go into a dealership alone anyways. An extra pair of eyes and ears always helps. It may feel intimidating to you also. Keep in mind, this is still a buyers market. No one is/should pay MSRP for anything these days unless you are buying a Ferarri.

Now is a good time to buy, with all the rebates and incentives going on. I was able to special order a 2010 KR here in MN with all the options I wanted, pretty much fully loaded. MSRP was $49,725 the way I loaded it up, and my purchase price was $39,322 (before all the tax, title, license, etc). That price was even waiving the $1000 incentive on Ford financing, since I had 4% from my credit union and did not want to pay Ford 2-3 months and pay it off with a check later from the credit union. I'm sure some others have gotten even better deals, but the rule of thumb is that if you think that you got a good deal then you did.

I was not going to buy for another 3-4 months, but I am glad I did...LOVING the King Ranch with 600 miles now that I picked up 5 days ago. The truck is smooth in all respects.

My advice is to forget about a 2009 and get a 2010.

Finding a 2009 could be difficult by now and whatever you found would certainly not be the pick of the litter. With the deep dealer discounts and factory rebates and incentives a 2010 is the way to go. Price out a 2010 on the Ford website (you can also find what rebates are available in your area), deduct 7% to 8% and then subtract the rebates and you will be in the ball park of what you can expect to pay. Also, go to TrueCar, CarsDirect and Edmunds and find out what others are paying. Whereas the amounts you find may not be exact, they will give you a good idea of what the market is in your area. Many posters on this forum have purchased 2010's in the past few months and gotten upwards of $10,000 off MSRP. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the example KD.

I went to the site Pug and their offering 7K off plus the 1K ford options deal. My uncle works for ford and tells me he can help reduce with an employee discount so that will help a lot. The advice you gave was GREAT! I have my truck in the $32,000 range and plan on going into the local and out of town dealer this weekend to see who is more eager for the sale. My father will be accompanying me to assist in discussions.

Really do appreciate you all taking the time to write. I'll ll let you know how it goes.

Ryan

Good luck with your purchase Ryan.

I'd recommend getting a 2010, either by ordering one or by ensuring it is a more recent build date 2010 "Job 2" truck. Easy way to tell if it is "Job 2" is that the microphone for the SYNC system is in the headliner (ceiling) instead of the rear view mirror ("Job 1" truck). There may be other minor enhancements that a Job 2 2010 will have over a Job 1. I think the Job 1 to Job 2 changeover happened sometime in February builds.

The 2009's have TSB's out on them for the tranny shifting, which it seems is no big deal to take it in and get the flash done to resolve the issues.
