Default adjustable cams for alignment

I went to 4 wheel parts today to get an estimate for having bilstein 5100's installed on my '13 Platinum super crew 4x4. They said with the alignment they have to add adjustable cams for the toe-in adjustment at $41.00 each. I don't doubt them but I haven't seen them mentioned by anybody else on the forum. Anyone else added them to your front end? For the cams, shocks, alignment, labor, and tax they want $915.00.

thanks

I have heard of that, and seen a post or two on here about it. Might even have been a 4wheelparts shop, and there was some confusion over reusing the spring perch too.

.... Cams are for the camber and caster adjustment. Toe is done with tie rod ends. and you can get both for much cheaper here:
Amazon.com: Moog K100025 Alignment Caster/Camber Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: Moog K100025 Alignment Caster/Camber Kit: Automotive

Otherwise they are flat lying to you. But it is 4 wheel parts, so it's probable. I dont have much faith in them. Cams just make it easier to adjust the caster and camber and makes it easier to keep the caster and camber in place (prevents bouncing or vibration from moving the bolt in the slot)

I have them and love them. But the more pressing concern is that they are saying it is needed (not really) and for toe (nope). Buy the Bilsteins from Alex and F150lifts, get the cams from my link, and find a more reputable shop to install and align.

They are called Camber kits / eccentric bolts, and they are indeed all over this forum and others.

Moog: http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/201...amber_kit.html

They are NOT absolutely necessary, but they fulfill 2 functions (for the shop, not for you ):

1. Make the adjustments easier to perform
2. Are a huge profit centre

I'd find a shop that does not insist upon them - or, just pay up.

The cams are essential for proper camber/caster adjustments as already mentioned. I have them but only because they came with my lift kit and doing the alignment under my carport with no lift to aid in adjusting the settings. If I still worked at the dealer with proper alignment equipment I could have got by without them.

For what they cost it's a non issue for most people.

Thanks for the explanation. The guy at 4 wheel parts probably said camber/caster but I forgot. I need to find a shop I trust working on my truck although shocks and alignment isn't rocket science.

thanks again
