Adding extra batteries
I am looking to add some extra batteries to the frame rail. I was hoping to add capacity to the my small truck camper. Is there any mounting systems that anyone knows?
Go with a dry or gel cell battery so, if need be, you can have it mounted on its side to be able to access the terminals better. I would also recommend a battery isolator so that you don't run down the truck battery while out in the brush. Many years ago my dad ran a setup like this on his '69 F100 (I still have it) along with an overhead camper. We could camp for a week without needing to start the truck. When it was time to leave, the truck could fire right up.

If it was me I would try to find a good storage spot in the camper I could loose and rig up a harness that would go from the batteries to the trailer plug. You would have to look in the manual for which pin you'd need but there's one just for charging the battery on a trailer. Nothing saying you couldn't do the same on your camper. Then you need not worry about exposing the batteries to the elements and you still get what you need.
I've been looking at storage space in my truck, and was thinking about using the space between the frame rails, behind the grill, but in front of the radiator. Seems like a lot of space there, not sure if there is enough for a battery, but from what I remember I think it could go there. ???
