Question Adding extra back-up camera for trailer

Hi All,

I have a 2011 Ecoboost SCrew with the backup camera and the screen in the rear view mirror (no nav screen).

I also have a 29' travel trailer, which is a little difficult to back into tight spaces, so I want to get a camera to put on the back of it.

I know I can just order one with its own screen, but has anyone tried hooking into the existing display? Is there some way to add an extra "feed" into the screen, and be able to switch between them?

Interesting idea. Since it is all hardwired, you would have to run a wire from the truck to the trailer. You can access the rear view camera wire at the tailgate, there is a connector there, made so if you want to take the tailgate off, you just disconnect the camera. Splice in there and run another connector down to the trailer wiring plug.

Default Dual Camera Setup in Mirror

Did you ever figure out how to accomplish this dual camera set-up? I am needing to do the same thing.

Thanks!

Actually, I did install a camera on my trailer. I cheated a bit, though. I bought a wireless one from Canadian Tire a few weeks back and installed that. It only has a 30' range, but I got one of the electronics techs at work extend the wiring for me to take care of the problem.

Now the camera is at the back, the transmitter is about half way down the trailer on the inside, and the receiver/screen is on the dash. I have a toggle switch in a cabinet that allows me to turn it on and off when I want. I would have liked to power it from a running light on the trailer itself, allowing me to turn it on and off with the truck's parking lights, but I didn't feel like drilling through the floor to get at one.

Here's the one I bought. It was on sale for $99.95 at the time, so I thought I'd take a chance.
