so let me get this straight... my 2000 is governed at 96mph but the 04-08 generation doesn't seem to have a governor on it and then they put it back on for the '09s?

I believe my Harley Davidson goes to 115. I don't know if I'll actually try and see for myself though

The OEM tires are V-rated though, which is good for about 150mph.

All new vehicles are governed at or near the maximum speed rating of the stock tires. My truck is the same as yours, around 96 mph. The 04-08 were/are as well, as was my 2006 Chev silverado. It is an industry wide policy. And it definetly can be removed/raised by the Hypertech Max Energy, but before the programmer will do it, it advises that you must have proper speed rated tires installed.

Well put.

My 2009's tires have a speed rating of T, which we know is 118 mph.

So, the 96 mph governor makes sense mathematically (not that I like it). Thanks

I don't have an issue with them limiting the speed on the factory tires...seems like the responsible thing to do, however I was in a situation one time where I needed to evade some clowns in another vehicle and realized very quickly how limiting the governor could have resulted in a much worse situation than allowing me to remove myself from the situation without the governor. Obviously this isn't something that I would support for back country roads to stretch the limit of your vehicle during an episode of stupidity, but I think I would rather determine my own fate given the right situation.

70 makes no sense, many of the interstates here in Texas have an 80mph speed limit...and its easy to do that safely in these trucks, as long as you stay fully aware and pay attention to the road, don't tailgate people, etc.
