Default 6r80 1-2 shift or down shift to 2

Like the title says another thread on harsh shifting. Soft ware updates all completed oil and filter changed. No fault codes. Transmission shifts erratic specifically in to second. Sometimes nice and smooth other times harsh and it even double shifts. Probably from prolonged oil and filter change intervals as these transmissions need to be serviced regularly or solenoids start acting up. So dealers and transmission shops tell me the only fix is a new valve body which would entail programming and a 2 grand bill. And that might not even fix so they will then charge me 6 grand for a new trans. What if i buy that valve body and do this myself in my garage can i drive the truck down to the dealer safely to get the programming done? Or should i just keep on driving it like it is until it breaks in half. I can actually start out in second gear when its warmed up. Will this hurt anything?

You should be fine for a short ride to the dealer. Will shift funny but I wouldn't go too far.

Replacing it yourself isn’t hard. FordTechMakuloco on YouTube made a video on how to replace the lead frame which is connected to the valve body. I would replace everything while the transmission is open. As far as programming, I’m not 100% sure but I think ForScan can do the job.

I’m sure there are plenty of forums related to issue.

If I may weigh in on this. My 2010 just started getting stuck in first gear in the mornings on the way into work. No check engine light, no wrench light, no codes. Shut vehicle off, restart, shifted normally on the drive to work. Sometimes it actually got stuck in third gear. Each time, shut truck off, restart, drove normally. Watched videos, read a lot of posts. Wanted just to change out the lead frame BUT, Ford no longer sells just the lead frame without the valve body. Sure, I could have eBay'd it and got one but I wanted it done right. Lead frame about 400 bucks but the valve body added another 1300 bucks. With changing my rusty transmission lines, came out to 2100 bucks. Also, Ford no longer sells valve bodies earlier than 2013, so I had to go with that. Trans shop stated they looked very different but I can tell you it was worth the time and money. Ford must have gotten so many complaints they redesigned it. Thing shifts like a dream now. If you can find the lead frame and valve body cheaper, go for it and do it yourself, Most folks say it only takes 2 hours to do (if you have all of the tools, resources, time, etc.).

Ok well i was hoping it was that plastic crossover seal. No such luck bought a new one for 48 dollars at ford dealer. And i have it all apart now so I found a new valve body on ebay for really reasonable. Am going to try that. Couple nights ago a big buck ran out in front of me. I should have hit the gas but hit the break instead. Shucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
