AMEN, brother......glad I am not the only one who thinks this move makes sense for Ford. It would HAVE to help their CAFE ratings, no?

Can you imagine the MPG on the lighter, more aerodynamic F150 with this smaller diesel? I would expect easy upper 20's to low 30's MPG when unloaded at 55 to 65 MPH. That, and we'd finally have an engine that can fully live up to the (over rated ??) tow ratings on the F150, and tow like a monster.......AND retain the great 1/2 ton ride....
I think that people would be all over that!!! I know that I would in a heartbeat!
Had an added thought.......think of driving a 1,000 miles between fill ups with a 36 gallon tank. I am SO there!.......

I read that the Ram 1500 might have a diesel option in the new models. They will be the first to try it. If they do and goes over well then Ford might follow suit.

I agree with you on the bed options. I just don't get the 5 foot bed, do people really want that or are people just settling on it? But Ford is one of the few that offers 6.5' in a supercrew format, they all went to 5'. I had a toyota and when they did it on their crewmax, I switched to Dodge. Had an 08 Ram 1500 MEGACAB and loved the size inside with 6.5' but the 10mpg was killer. I wish Ford gave us more room behind the rear seat like the megacab.

I wanted a KR with EB and 6.5' plus other options and it was extremely hard to find. Called Ford directly because 8 local dealers wouldn't work with me and they only found 4 in the entire US! I didn't want to order because of the known shortage and delays. I did look at the SD diesel but too much money for my blood.

I ended up settling for a KR with 5.0L and 6.5' with almost all options except moonroof. Dealership came down to where I needed to be and bought it last month.

Good luck on whatever you decide!

Chevy was supposed to release a 4 litre duramax in its 1/2 trucks last year I think but that plan got scrapped also. If all the makers are doing this there has to be something holding them all back and I think its probably emissions testing on light duty trucks. I bet someone will do it though then it was be a 1/2 diesel power war just like the hd have now.

Will never buy a GM product until the day I die. Had an extremely bad experience in 1986 and promised myself I will try my best to never give a dime to that company again. When I heard they were going broke and might be no longer, that was one happy revenge day for me....then our government bailed them out, Darn!

Any Ford insiders or dealers on here with an explanation? Surely I'm not the only one bugeed by this....
Whereabouts ru in western Canada?
When looking for my truck last month I thought there were quite a few 6.2L out there....but maybe not in the long tho.
This is the Calgary area I'm talking about...

Bosro, I'm in Lloydminster. There are a few 6.2s around alright but the ecoboost far outnumbers them, and the 6.2s are all in s/crew shortys. That's what made me go on Ford's site and try to build what I wanted, only to discover you can't get that combo.....

I think the main problem with a 1/2 ton diesel is the price. I remember reading that putting a diesel in a 1/2 ton would be a $4k+ option, or more, considering the current emissions BS.. And how many people could REALLY justify that? I couldn't. So they're deducing that the take rate would be so low that they just can't justify it either.
