I am close to pulling the trigger on a tuner. I'm trying to finalize my decision on which tunes to get. I'm definitely going with the 93 performance. What is the difference between 87 performance and 87 Perf/tow?? I tow a boat during the summer. Do some folks run the Perf/tow tune all the time? Would it make sense to get these three tunes:

87 performance
87 Perf/tow
93 performance

Mike at 5 star said the 87 economy is popular but he also said it is stockish. If I want a stock like tune couldn't I just return the truck to stock? Thanks!

I am running a 2009 with the 5.4 / 6 speed combo with the 3:55 rear. Also running tires close to 35" tall. Looking forward to getting some of the power back lost with the addition of taller tires.

Ha. I am about to pull the trigger on tuner too. I will be going the 5star route as well. I have used custom tuners before. Power and torque are great but for me personally it is the tranny tuning that makes every cent worth it. So I will be choosing these 3 tunes.
*87 economy - I have read nice mpg gains from his economy tune.
*87 perf/tow
*93 perf/tow
The only time my truck is stock when I have a tuner is when I am driving to the dealership for maintenance.
Btw. From what I have read on another thread is the difference in the 87 perf/tow and 87 perf is power/torque throughout the rpm range and shift points. I believe 87 perf/tow is a little more tuned for low rpm torque and not as much power up top. 87 performance is great power all the way to the top of the tach. Mike at 5star is the guy to ask.
Good luck. Can't wait to hear how it goes. I'll be ordering mine on Monday.

IMHO, don't get the economy unless you really see yourself using it. I have the 87 economy, 87 perf/tow, 93 perf/tow, and the 93 performance. I used the economy once and could not bare it after just 30 minutes of driving. My recommendations if you are like me and run 93 all the time and to somewhat frequently:

87 Perf/Tow
93 Perf/Tow
93 Performance

If you plan on running 87 most of the time then:

87 Perf/Tow
87 Performance
93 Performance

He can probably make you one if you ask and pay for it.

You will not be dissapointed with any of those selections. Keep in mind what octane you have available locally, and your prefrence in octane

I'm used to running 87 octane. If I am going to spend more money then I'm going all the way to 93 (not 91) so all the 91 tunes are out. I never see myself using the economy tune (I can just take it back to stock) so I think I am going with:

87 Perf/Tow
87 Performance
93 Performance

I will run 87 performance 90% of the time; 87 perf/tow when towing and 93 performance when I want to have some fun.
