Default 5l vs v6

I am wanting to buy a f150 but I am not sure which is the better engine the 5L or V6. Does anyone know what problems they have when there are high miles on them? I am looking at 2011 to 2015 models.

Inevitable questions to come:

- Are you towing with it? (if so, how much weight)
- Does MPG's matter to you?
- Are you looking for speed or grunt?
- 2011 - 2014 -> Steel Body vs 2015+ Aluminum body
- Which V6 are you talking about? (2.7 or 3.5)
etc...

I would suggest searching the thousands of threads on this topic. Both are good engines. Drive one of each and pick the one you like best.

Mileage doesn't matter since the 2 different engine are close. I have a 2005 5.4L Lariat now and it handles what I need to pull. I did drive the turbo V6 and liked the torque it had. I was a drag racer with a 1985GT and have not followed the trucks since. I would like to pros and cons on both engines 5.0L and Turbo v6

Search! There are hundreds of threads on this topic, but I'll summarize them for you...

Go to a dealer, drive both, pick the one you like, the end.

I've had a V8 in every car, truck I've owned, until I bought my used 2014 3.7 V6 with the tow package.

V6 302 horsepower, 278 torque
5.0 360 horsepower, 380 torque

This truck is my daily driver and I do light hauling and towing and I get around 19 mpg. The V6 is fine for my use.
If I were doing significant towing, I would want the extra 100 foot pounds of torque when dragging something heavy up a hill.

You did not quote the 3.5 turbo v6 numbers, only the 3.7.

3.7 v6 302hp and 278 torque
5.0 v8 360hp and 380 torque
3.5 v6 365hp and 420 torque.
6.2 v8 411hp and 434 torque

But OP, search because you will find all of your answers.

I had a 2005 with the 5.4 / 4 speed with 3:73 rear gearing. I can't even begin to tell you what a difference it is today.
I then had a 2010 with the 6 speed and the 5.4 with 3:73. That was a significant increase in performance. It's what that slow revving 5.4 needed.

I had and just sold my 2014 with the 5.0 / 6 speed and 3:55 rear. While a tad sluggish off the line, once it got above 2500 rpm it was like a dirt bike's powerband. That engine revs to red line like nothing else in the truck segment.. imo.

The pull below 2500 rpm's is where the ecoboost is making it's power known. It's what guys that tow 2000lbs or more love about the eco.
